MAA's fall art exhibit: "Sundays at Four" art show was held on Sunday, September 28th from 4 to 6 pm at Manchester's East Side Neighborhood Resource Center, located at 153 Spruce Street. The Town of Manchester has transformed this former firehouse into a community meeting place with great gallery space for exhibiting artwork.

MAA artists were selected as the fourth group of artists to present their work in the Center's series of summer pop-up art exhibits. On exhibit were 58 pieces by 33 artists. Mediums included oil, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, printmaking, photography, and quilling.

During the Opening Reception on September 28th, in addition to MAA's members' artwork, there was live music provided by Summit Studios.

Featured musicians were classical guitarist, Liam Calhoun, followed by the Quiet Corner Fiddlers. It was a beautiful evening of music art and good company!

Another fun and delicious addition to the evening was the presence of CT's Mobile Farmers Market featuring fresh produce and products from CT farmers.

Member Meeting -- January 21, 2015

At our January meeting, we learned so much from Jerry Madara's acrylic painting demo - using your computer as a preparation tool, the Family Group Mix, and best of all, the Barney Fife painting technique.

In his handout, he shared this advice: "Stop often and step back to see what thou hast made. You may be pleasantly surprised."

3-Day Watercolor Portrait Workshop with Carolyn Emerson

-- Flyer

MAA's Watercolor Portrait Workshop with Carolyn Emerson was held at the Community Y, 78 N. Main Street. The workshop had wonderful results. The participants were quite pleased with their portraits. They learned to create lively, accurate portraits through guided drawing and step by step painting instructions via demonstration and examples. Emphasis was on using white space to advantage, shadowing to achieve facial contours, and applying easy techniques to imbue portraits with life. In the photos below, Carolyn Emerson helps Linda Judd with her drawing (left) and demonstrates mixing colors.
